Jennifer White, MA ~ Founder of Root Systems Institute
My "Speciality" Is Being a Generalist

I have had a passionate connection to nature and an affinity for systems
thinking since I was a small girl.  In my search to find the profession that
would allow me to have the greatest impact in the world I have trained and
worked in many fields, including physics, psychotherapy, education,
systems science, and environmental sustainability.  All of these have held
for me a piece of the sustainability puzzle, but taken separately they seemed
to lack the power and influence that integration and holism provides.

In creating Root Systems Institute (RSI) in the spring of 2004 I have worked
to synthesize the diverse set of experiences and skills I have consciously
acquired into a coherent, integrated framework.  My experience as a
therapist and my interdisciplinary background allow me to provide a process
for people that is both deeply personal and holistic at the same time.  I've
also been told more than once that if this whole "saving the world gig"
doesn't work out, that I can always make a living as a stand-up comic.  I
don't intend change jobs, but I do bring that same love for humor to my
speaking engagements, curriculum development, and work with clients.

Diverse Clients, Similar Passions

I possess over thirteen years experience as a writer, researcher, counselor,
speaker, consultant, and an educator and throughout my life I have been
dedicated to encouraging sustainable choices which coincide with both our
inner purpose and the health of the planet.  I sing professionally in the
acoustic duo
Sferes & White, and on our national tours we also offer a
specialized presentation called
The Eco-Tones, combining information
about simple, eco-friendly living with a compelling music performance.

I am also the Co-Founder and Director of Education for the
Green Heart
Institute where I developed and facilitate a systemic program for helping
people negotiate the process of change, achieve more balance in their lives,
and discover what they can do in their homes and businesses to reduce
their environmental impact.  I was the Executive Director of a national
nonprofit called the
Simplicity Forum, which is a multidisciplinary think tank
of leaders committed to "achieving and honoring simple, just and
sustainable ways of life."

I have provided consultation to several education and nonprofit
organizations in areas of curriculum development, communications and
research including the
Continued Success Foundation, Learning for Living,
and Higher EDge.    Many years ago I co-founded an organization that
offered a nine-day wilderness experience with the intention of allowing
people to reconnect with nature and discover a vision for their lives.  I have
also taught Communications and Ethics classes, conducted local and
national trainings as a Senior Consultant and Lecturer at Northwestern
University, and worked as a technical writer for several engineering firms.

Being of Service

I firmly believe that life is far too short to not love what you do and therefore I
seek always to find vocations that are both personally and socially
meaningful.  I am deeply committed to service and have earned several
volunteer awards over the past 13 years as the Volunteer Trainer and
Community Educator with the Boulder County AIDS Project.. I have also
volunteered with the Boulder Institute of Sustainability and the
Northwest
Earth Institute, and was a founding member of the Steering Committee for
the regional
Rocky Mountain Earth Institute.   I served on the Lyons Area
Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and have helped this
organization educate its members about
Sustainability.   I am one of the
founding members of the initiating group for
Transition Town Lyons, a
collection of concerned citizens who have joined an international
Transition
Network that advocates community-building, positive visioning, and
relocalization as a means to proactively address the challenges posed by
peak oil, climate change, and economic instability.
