The mission of Root Systems Institute (RSI) is to educate, empower and inspire
individuals and organizations to make sustainable choices that are in alignment
with their inner purpose and which support the health of our communities and the
planet. While maintaining a systems focus, RSI assists people in uncovering the
root means, both physical and psychological, for living meaningful, deeply
satisfying lives that are respectful of a larger social and environmental context.
Educate ~ Empower ~ Inspire
Integrity has two components: truth and wholeness. When we
experience congruence between our values and our actions, and make
decisions based on truth, we feel a sense of contentment and
confidence that positively influences everything we do. When our
organizations have integrity we gain dedicated employees and clients
and our work in the world earns a profit beyond just the monetary and the
material. And, when we maintain a systems perspective and understand
the connections between our physical and emotional health, ourselves
and the environment, our present choices and the future we create, then
we have an opportunity to help facilitate the transition to true sustainability.
Choosing to Live in Integrity
Foster Reconnection
RSI fosters reconnection by providing some of the resources we need to:
bring mindfulness to our daily experience; approach our decisions and our
lives in a holistic and integrated way; rediscover what is truly fulfilling and
meaningful and organize our days around that; and take pleasure in having
success that also makes the world a better place.
Changing People, Changes Systems
RSI embodies an uncommon definition of success. Traditional programs
encourage a view of "success" characterized by the acquisition of
mansions and leer jets, as well as an ongoing and escalating cycle of
earn and spend. At RSI we do not assume that consumption of "stuff"
leads to real fulfillment and happiness, nor that it doesn't have social or
environmental consequences. And as we discover that the non-material
things in life hold a meaning and richness that material goods can never
match, we realize that simple, deliberate living and whole systems
sustainability don’t necessarily imply sacrificing what we really want.
An Uncommon Definition of Success
"Changing people, changes systems;” the deeper the change in people
the more sustainable the change in the system. Real, long-lasting
behavior change can be challenging, therefore RSI helps individuals and
organizations directly address their mindsets as a specific means for
achieving satisfaction and sustainability in all systems and at all levels.
It Has to Be Fun
We're facing huge challenges as a global community, but if we can't have
fun during the process of addressing these issues we may not succeed
at all. Though we certainly have some serious decisions ahead it is
always possible to find joy and humor along the way. Ultimately we don't
want lives that are just "sustainable" in that they're only characterized by
some ongoing level of continuous functioning, we want the "deepest
happiness, highest potential and optimal health for all beings for all time."
